According to the latest census 2078, the population of Nepal nearly reached 3 crores. Due to the uncertainty of jobs in the country, nearly one-third of youth are in foreign countries, they are working in foreign and earning money by being hard workers. The country is running by remittance provided by them. Another group of youth is unemployed and searching future in politics. Among the remaining groups of people, who have strong family backgrounds financially are doing private business. Rest are doing private jobs and trying hard for the government job.
The craze for government jobs seems clear because it is a permanent job and no risk as in private jobs. So, the People of Nepal are going crazy for the government job. The public Service Commission is responsible for announcing vacancies in a different government post.
The reason for attraction to a government job in Nepal can be summarised in different points.
Secure Job
Among all the opportunities in Nepal, the government job is the most secure. It has no effects of corona like a pandemic, they can earn fixed money provided by the government every month. So, Accordingly, they can plan expenses and can adjust expenses too. Due to this, they can live a normal life happily. Along with this, they can plan children's education, family, festivals, etc without any worries.
Risk in private business
Due to political instability, and insufficient resources, there is always risk in private business. Also, there are well-established private organizations. So, to compete with these organizations for the fresher is really very tough. It takes generations to be well established and we are trying to make our career better first. How can one seriously do struggle over whole life to establish in the private sector? Another important parameter that is not encouraging youth to own a business is the initial investment. If one has enough assets and have no worry about the future, they can compete with well-stabilised private organization and may succeed too. But who has not had enough assets and resources to do his own business, will do private jobs and try out government jobs for a secure future. Though nowadays many people are doing better in private business in their own risk following the saying "No risk, No gain". They are creating job opportunities for the people like them. High prestige in society
In Nepalese society, there is still discrimination in jobs, If one is earning money higher than government workers by doing agriculture work. Government officer has a high reputation in society. This should be changed and it is changing over time.
Growing Environment
especially, in the western part of Nepal, society itself has set the goal for the youth as a government worker. Since the very beginning parents have been taught why they should be government worker and preparation were done accordingly. He doesn't see any other opportunities after graduation and his target will always be a government worker.
Nowadays, competition in government jobs increasing year by year. And there is an age limit to enter into the government jobs, Vacancies are limited and applicants are higher. One is preparing for years and if he does not succeed due to high competition within the age limit then he should search for another opportunity and if he belongs to the initially discussed conservative society, he may go into depression which may result in suicide too. So going crazy for a government job is not that good.
How system being suicidal for the people preparing for Government jobs?
Vacancies are not opening in a systematic way, the Public service commission is opening vacancies in large numbers and people are preparing for this without engaging anywhere. When exams come near then vacancies are post ponding due to writ application of different clusters of society in the court. Constitution has given a reservation right for different clusters of society. Vacancies are opening excluding these proposed reservations in the constitution. And clusters are applying writ in court and exam is post ponding for unlimited time. Which is causing psychological effects on applicants for government jobs.
Conclusion
Rules and regulations following the constitution should be made as soon as possible and the Public service commission should open vacancies in such a way that there should not be any objection by different clusters of society regarding reservation and other if any. The exam should be on time, so there will be no injustice to the people who are preparing for the government jobs. Furthermore, Craze should be minimized in this area by creating other opportunities due to which people can do their own work with ease. Discrimination in the type of jobs should not be there. If people are willing to accept the saying " work has neither higher type nor lower type, All work is equal", then the craze of government jobs is automatically balanced.
